Radiqal Movement

Supported through Foundation North Fund 2024

Rule Foundation was so pleased to be able to support Radical Movement to continue to deliver fitness classes, personal training and physical activity created by and for the rainbow community.

In Tāmaki Makaurau, Radiqal Movement is redefining what it means to move with joy, empowerment, and community. They are cultivating a space where queer and gender-diverse people can find holistic wellness, connection, and a true sense of tūrangawaewae (a place to stand). By offering group fitness classes, gender-affirming personal training, community exercise groups, and events, Radiqal is challenging the harmful narratives around exercise, promoting a model that centres body neutrality, manākitanga (care and hospitality), and autonomy.

Radiqal Movement’s approach is not just about physical fitness—it’s about creating a supportive, inclusive environment where all are welcome. “Exercise isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept,” says the team at Radiqal. “We cater to people with diverse lived experiences—whether it’s disability, neurodivergence, or gender and sexual diversity. Our mission is to provide spaces where individuals can move freely, feel safe, and be empowered in their bodies.”

The organisation’s philosophy challenges the traditional, often exclusionary fitness spaces, which can marginalise communities, especially those with unique needs or identities. Radiqal places a strong emphasis on joyful, holistic approaches to movement, ensuring that participants experience wellness that’s about more than just physical health—it’s about mental and emotional well-being too.

"When I walk into Radiqal, I feel seen and respected in a way I never have before in other fitness spaces, it’s not about conforming to a certain body type or pushing yourself to the limit—it’s about moving in a way that feels good for me.” Tia (participant)
