MINISTRY OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT - TE MANATŪ WHAKAHIATO TAIOHI ADDS $100,000 TO THE 2023 ROUND OF THE RAINBOW WELLBEING LEGACY FUND

The 2023 round of the Rainbow Wellbeing Legacy Fund (RWLF) will see a total of $500,000 in grants being distributed to programmes focusing on mental health and wellbeing in rainbow communities thanks to an additional $100,000 of funding in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Development (MYD) - Te Manatū Whakahiato Taiohi

MYD has made a contribution of $100,000 to the 2023 round of the RWLF in order to provide support for initiatives contributing to the wellbeing and resilience of rainbow young people, aged 12-24 years. Administered by the Rule Foundation, the RWLF was established in 2019 in recognition of the men who were convicted for consensual homosexual activities pre-1986.

The Rule Foundation approached MYD for this partnership on the basis of improving access to funding for rainbow community organisations, many of whom have been long under-resourced.

“Our partners are increasing funding to community organisations that don’t see themselves in mainstream funding opportunities” says Duncan Matthews, Co-chair of the Rule Foundation.

Grants will be allocated to activities that support rainbow mental health and wellbeing, such as resource development, community events, digital or online initiatives, information sharing initiatives and campaigns, and training. Projects that acknowledge and support those within the Rainbow community that experience multiple forms of oppression are encouraged.

“We’re really excited to be partnering with the MYD to fund projects that uplift rainbow rangatahi,” says Matthews.

“The RWLF was established with a focus on health and wellbeing for rainbow young people from input of those convicted prior to law reform, something that aligns well with MYD.  A huge thank you to the Ministry of Youth Development - Te Manatū Whakahiato Taiohi for enabling our community in this way!”

Applications for the 2023 round of the RWLF close on 31 July 2023. More information can be found here.
